Your here: Home / Network / Hardware Specific / Cisco-Linksys / Linksys E4200 v1.0 The E4200 is very sensitive to the nvram size. The only safe nvram size identified for this router is an nvram size of 60kB. Recovery from a firmware with the wrong nvram size requires use of a jtag cable to erase. The serial port is the 5 hole area oon the right side of the pcb (near the back of the router). _________________ Kernel panic: Aiee, killing interrupt handler!

I prepared my pi (using wheezy-raspbian) to use minicom to connect according to that document: reboot and put to listen with Code: sudo minicom -b 115200 -o -D /dev/ttyAMA0 and after everything is set up (I connected my router to a second nic with fixed ip 192.168.1.8 subnet 255.255.255.0) I powered that e4200 on. I still get ttl=100 ping replies after powering up, but minicom does not show anything. What is the missing part in here? Do we need to connect 3.3 Vcc? See details below. I have managed to brick my E4200 after flashing dd-wrt.v24-23082_NEWD-2_K2.6_XXX-nv60k.bin. After flash, instant brick. The bad thing was that I could not unbrick it with a serial connection and TFTP.

This build will probably meet or exceed your needs, too, and so for the vast majority of users (including power-users), that’s what I recommend. I found a decent YouTube video where a guy named Dan Carter walks through the DD-WRT firmware upgrade process on a stock E4200. He goes through pretty slowly, but if this is your first DD-WRT install, it’s not a bad idea to watch. Keep in mind the versions he installs are older than the ones I reference in this post, so use my newer filenames while you follow along with his process, and you’ll be fine.

Power it up, as soon as you see output in minicom hit ^C until it stops booting and drops you to a shell. First execute Code: nvram erase then prepare it to accept stock firmware with Code: flash -ctheader: flash1.trx as soon as you executed that send stock firmware with tftp!
